No Matter

When we are old

and have little time

Will you hold me

And look deep in my eyes

And will you be there

when the lights go out

To assure me

And wipe away my doubt

No matter where we go

No matter what's waiting

No matter if we will meet again

Will you think

Of our better times

The days when

We couldn't see the end

And will you live

Your life joyfully

Never wanting

Or regretting a single day

No matter where we go

No matter what's waiting

No matter if we will meet again

If I could choose

Our…

Darkest Hour

Phone call

Message surprises you

Though you have been waiting for the call for years

They know

How much you can’t be sure

You know they are coming to take you away

Back against the wall

Nothing to do at all

Your game is over, you’re going to fall

It’s your darkest hour

Head against the floor

Nothing to do anymore

Waiting for someone to knock down your door

It’ your darkest hour

For so long

You thought no one knew the truth

You thought all sins had been washed away

You'll pay

But the relief is…

Little Rabbits

Red hooded figures in farmers boots

Walking out of three different churches

Driving black ribboned tractors on cobblestone roads

Listening to down home dirges.

Their faces are glowing with phosphorus light

They stand and they sing deep into the night

Præy on

Præy on little rabbits, pray on.

Præy on little rabbits, pray on.

Præy on little rabbits, pray on.

The old woman pointing with bible in hand

At the bonfire down in the hollow

There are candles to burn and old ones to call

And more than just…

Pine Box Blues

Just float me down this river

in a coffin made of pine

I don’t need no 6 feet of dirt

to hide behind

When the preacher talks on Sunday

make sure he says my name

and all the wrongs I’ve done

so noone does the same

Tell me girl I’m sorry

I shot her daddy down

Now she can follow her heart

when the next boy comes around

The law will come on Monday

to hang me from a tree

Tell them I’ve gone sailing

in a pine box made for me

Seal my coffin well boys

put those nails in good

I wanna float on down this…

Washerwoman

Light up the woodpile

Unbutton your coat

Let the sweet memories

Burn in your throat

The sun has pickled

Our bodies again

Let's sing down the moon

And wait for the end

Come to me old washerwoman

Shake the dust off our old skin and bones

With hazy hands and calloused minds

We will rebel at the rest of our kind

Close off the lamplight

Stare at the stars

Nothing ever changes

From the hoods of our cars

Laughing away

Our troubles once more

Smiles make us mortal

And our spirits to soar

Come to me old…
