Dead Hooker Blue

Woke up this morning, got a dead hooker in my bed

Don’t know how she got here, or why my hands are so red

There’s pills and bottles all over my floor

There’s an angry cop outside, and he’s banging on my door

Don’t remember much, like if this hooker had a name

Don’t remember paying, but I know I’ll take the blame

Gonna gather my things, try to make sense of it all

Really hard to do that with all these cops out in the hall

Gonna climb out this window, after I put on my shoes

Gonna climb out this…

Anarchy Road

The law isn’t just for any of us in this town

Breaks all the rules out of any old fool comes around

We all say it’s my way on this stretch of highway to hell

And noone can lead us, cause the freedom it feeds us so well

On Anarchy Road

You have to be fit to survive all the shit around here

Smarter by lying and braver by drying your tears

Your actions get meaner, but you conscience gets cleaner than mine

Pressured and heated, like a diamond you’re seated just fine

On Anarchy Road

Free to keep your…

Drunken Mass

Put your money in the hat

Put your money in the hat

You give your dollar to Deacon Roach

And listen to Reverend Rat

  Oooh church of the bottle

  Oooh church of the glass

  Oooh church of the bottle

  Come to the drunken mass

Bask in the glory of the light

Bask in the glory of the light

Neon shines off can in the gutter

Showing the way through the night

Open yourself to the ghost

Open yourself to the ghost

Give wings to barflies and nightclub birds

And raise your wine in a toast

Closing time…

They Say

They say he worked for the government

In the shadows of statues and monuments

Earning all the little perks there for a while

But he wanted more than a paycheck and a smile

They say he kept it all to himself

His hunger for every book up on the shelf

Out on his moss covered porch he sat every night

With an empty whiskey glass and an old flashlight

They say he only ever had one love

A beauty that we could only dream of

It ended when he was a young man years ago

They say he traveled around the world one…

Hitchhiker

It was the middle of town, in the middle of June

He was looking for a way to nowhere in the afternoon

He was standing by the road, greasy thumb in the air

He was standing by a cardboard sign saying anywhere

He had a long white beard, and crazy blue eyes

He had camouflage pants and a tshirt that said apologize

Cars were speeding on by, noone even slowed down

They probably saw the rusty chainsaw laying on the ground

It was resting on a bag, about 3 feet wide

It was lumpy and black and had a…

Matuska

Matuska oh matuska

Your family thought you were so sweet and kind

Matuska oh matuska

And just what will you leave behind

On a hot August day

You lay in wait for the train

Just a few mile south of Berlin

Nobody died, but everyone cried

It must have been matuska again

Just a month out of sight

Into Vienna at night

You brought the whole bridge down with your sin

As the death toll rose

You were curling your toes

And we knew it was matuska again

Matuska oh matuska

Stay away from that railway line

Matuska…

Your Place

Since the first night in the hospital

Bouncing your head on my chest

Never felt complete, the naps in the seat

Always calm when you were upset

You always had your own place

And each mirror I look inside

Always see emptiness in my face

Without you here by my side

Every time I close my eyes

Everything reminds me of you

Christmas eve and father’s day

Don't know how I made it through

So tell me what are you up to

And how are you feeling right now

Your place is waiting here

Please let me show you how

And I…

Still Water

I can see my love there

She lies in the still water

And when the sun comes down

My love won't be around

I took my love up the mountainside last may

We said no words as we walked along the way

She took my hand and pleading looked at me

No words could change my heart it hurt so bitterly

A flask of wine we shared and her glass filled with tears

She spoke of all the good times we had throughout the years

I sat in silent stillness, no drink could warm my heart

The devil loose inside me was tearing me apart

Ugly Old Suit

Will they think of me In this ugly old suit

I'm stiff as my collar And shiny as my boot

Makeup to hide my New pale colors

And a big wooden box That cost 3000 dollars

Walking past me With their frowns and their sobs

While they think about the day They have off from their jobs

Humbly they brag About the flowers that they brought

Saying they were my favorite Even if they were not

May the dead never know

What a party we throw

May they never hear the secrets and lies

May they have no doubt

May their money…

Under These Stars

Most exciting thing in a young man's life

Is to ask the girl on his shoulder to be his wife

Basking in a haze of kisses and booze

On a green hilltop with nothing to lose

When she said yes he flew up so high

Passing the planes and birds that were flying by

Touching back down to lay by her side

Couldn't stay still no matter how he tried

Under these stars and the moon above

Under these stars we learn about love

Under these stars we dance and play

Under these stars we fade away

Some years later he is a…
